Monday Letter

Hello St. Mary's parents,

The weekend volunteer team raised another sizable sum for St. Mary's, helping out with parking and 50/50 raffles at LSSU.  Many thanks for your efforts!

We had a HASA meeting last Thursday, and the main takeaway is that there are many exciting events on the calendar, but if we want them to happen, we need volunteers and most especially a lead volunteer to come forward well before the event.

This last week the Michigan Attorney General released a report on clergy sexual abuse in the diocese of Marquette.  Please see the Bishop's letter in response here: AG Report Statement.pdf (dioceseofmarquette.org) and the website about it here: Attorney General Report 2022 - Diocese of Marquette - Marquette, MI.  Bishop John Doerfler will be holding listening sessions across the diocese to address any concerns or questions people may have about the report.  The nearest one will be this Wednesday evening (11/2) at 7pm in St. Joseph's parish church.

St. Mary's Catholic School, along with the diocese, takes every precaution to make sure that children and vulnerable adults are safe, including having volunteers and staff pass a thorough background check, complete the VIRTUS Protecting God’s Children Safe Environment training as well as ongoing education.  We also educate the students to recognize, interrupt, stop and report inappropriate behaviors and situations via the Child Lures curricula Child Sexual Abuse & Molestation Prevention for PreK-12: Child Lures® (childluresprevention.com).  As far as general safety, we also make sure all doors are locked on a regular basis, and that our property is under constant surveillance.

Tomorrow 11/1 is All Saints' Day, and the students will be dressing up and displaying their Saint's costumes.

Although there will be Mass tomorrow for the Holy Day of Obligation, there will also be a Thursday Mass this week 11/3.

This Friday, Nov 4 is the end of the first quarter of the school year.  Grades will go home the following week Tuesday.

May you have a blessed and safe All Hallows' evening!
In Christ,
Tim Vail
