Education For Life. . .
Faith For Living.
The St. Mary’s After School Program is licensed through the State of Michigan. All rules and regulations for licensing are adhered to. Any questions should be directed to Beth Walsh, Director.
The program is open Monday through Friday, on days when school is in session, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
There is no program on half days of school, or if for whatever reason school is dismissed early.
Per our State of Michigan License, we are only licensed to be open til 5:00, it is imperative that your child be picked up by 5:00. Late pick-up is grounds for the After School Program to be written up by the State, which could jeopardize our State license to run an after school program. Due to the seriousness of late pick-up, if you are late three times picking up your child(ren), your child will be dismissed from the After School Program.
The following forms must be on file before your child(ren) may begin the After School Program. We require these forms for our files, even if the school has the same information on file.
Copy of a current immunization record
Enrollment Packet
Handbook with Signature Page
The students will arrive between 3:00 PM and 3:10 PM and get signed in. They will wash their hands and have their snack if they desire. From 3:00 PM to 3:45 PM, the children will have the option to do their homework, read, play an educational game, or color. From 3:45 PM until departure time, the children will be given recreational time. They will be able to play games in the classroom or use the gym for gross motor activities (if the gym is available).
Children are urged to bring a nutritious snack to school with them for the purpose of eating while attending the After School Program. Please refrain from junk food and candy!
Upon arrival at the After School Program, attendance will be taken. The child will be signed in and out by a staff member.
If you make arrangements for a friend or relative to pick up your child, their name must be on the CHILD INFORMATION RECORD, as well as a note indicating who will be picking up the child that day. If the staff does not recognize the person, identification will be asked for. If none is provided, the child will not be released. Please inform your friend or relative that identification will be required.
Children will not be released to individuals, not on the release card, or who appear to be intoxicated.
If your child is picked up from the After School Program, they cannot return for safety reasons.
The spots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. If your child will be absent from the After School Program please contact the director – e-mail works best [email protected]
Center closings, notifications of communicable diseases and any important information will be posted on the bulletin board outside the clubroom.
When St. Mary’s Catholic School is closed due to inclement weather, the After School Program will also be closed.
It is the parent’s responsibility to inform the center if their child has come down with a communicable disease. The director will contact the Health Department to determine the following:
Incubation period
Signs and Symptoms
Contagious Period
When the child may return
A notice of communicable disease will be posted in the program along with the information from the Health Department.
Children are disciplined in a positive manner at a level that is appropriate to their age and behavior. The primary goal is to help children gain self-control, self-esteem, respect, responsibility, and cooperation with others.
Discipline Procedure:
A discussion will be held with the child immediately following the unacceptable behavior (i.e. hitting, teasing, destruction of property)
The child will be given time to explain his/her action and why they were inappropriate. Staff will help explain why his/her behavior is unacceptable if the child cannot.
The staff will use re-direction, use positive affirmations for behavior and as a last resort, a three-minute time-out from a situation to regain self-control.
For Nov. and Dec. the cost will be $125 per month. $140 will be the cost per month for the remaining months.
If your child needs to be given medication while attending the After School Program, a medical disbursement form must be filled out for each individual medication.
Children should not attend the After School Program if there is any question of illness. Parents will be called to pick up their child immediately if the child has any sign of the following symptoms:
A fever of 100 degrees or higher
Green runny nose
Diarrhea
Vomiting
If a child becomes ill at the center/program, he/she will be isolated in a supervised place. The parent/guardian will be called to pick up their child.
Volunteers are welcome at the St. Mary’s After School Program. If you plan on volunteering more than four hours a week for more than two weeks, you must have on file with the director a criminal history check, evidence of a recent tuberculosis test, and Virtus training established by the Diocese of Marquette. No volunteer will be left alone in the presence of a child. A staff member will be present to supervise at all times.
Reasons for denial of a volunteer:
Convicted of child abuse or neglect
Convicted of a felony or bodily harm
Convicted of sexual crimes of a child
All Staff of St. Mary’s After School Program are required to be fingerprinted as well as have a complete background check, Tuberculosis test, and Virtus training established by the Diocese of Marquette.
